South Konkan Education (SKE) Society-run GSS College and Rani Parvati Devi (RPD) College have been granted autonomous status. Starting this academic year, both colleges will develop their curriculum and manage exam planning, according to an announcement from the SKE Society’s Managing Committee.
“Out of 45,000 degree colleges in our country, only 995, or about two percent, are recognized as autonomous. While universities typically update their curriculum once every five years, we can revise ours every three years to keep pace with changing conditions and provide the new generation with current developments,” said Madhuri Shanbhag, Member of College Managing Committee.
At a press conference, RPD College Principal Abhay Patil reviewed the college’s progress since its inception. GSS College Principal BL Majukar also highlighted GSS’s achievements.

“The majority of our students come from rural areas. Our goal is to help these students become self-reliant. Education should not only focus on teaching and grades but also the overall responsibility of students. We believe students should acquire knowledge beyond what teachers and books offer,” Majukar stated.
Addressing the issue of unemployment among women aged 30 to 35 in Belagavi and surrounding areas, Majukar announced plans to start short courses lasting three to six months for these women.
Reflecting on SKE Institute’s 80-year legacy, Majukar expressed pride in their modern workshops, an extensive library, sports facilities, large playing field, separate stadium, and faculty skilled in new technologies.
“Adopting the new system has significantly increased student enrollment, and I believe that all courses at both colleges will continue to grow in popularity,” Majukar concluded.
