Rs. 20 Crore Compensation Case Involving 23 Guntas of Land
The process of returning 23 guntas of road space in Shahapur, originally taken by the Belagavi Smart City Department, is moving forward. Survey and drawing efforts commenced on Thursday. The land, belonging to petitioner, is being surveyed by the Land Records Office to identify the exact portion used for the road.
The transfer of this land to its original owners is likely to occur on Saturday (21st), as per sources within the City Corporation. This prompted the immediate start of surveying and drawing. A panchnama, or formal inspection, will also be conducted for the stretch from Bank of India Corner to Old Dharwad Road.
The City Corporation Commissioner and the Managing Director of the Smart City Project are expected to oversee the transfer process, ensuring all steps are completed swiftly. The case, which involves Rs. 20 crore in compensation, will have a hearing on September 23, and the court has ordered that the land must be returned to its rightful owners before this date respectfully.
An informal meeting between City Commissioner Ashok Dudgunti and Smart City Project Director Afrinbano Ballari took place following the High Court’s hearing on Tuesday (17th). The court has issued a stern warning, stipulating that if the land is not returned by September 23, a Rs. 5 lakh fine will be imposed, and penalties will be recorded in the officials’ service books.
The Smart City Department has moved quickly, ensuring the completion of this process before the deadline.
