The expansion of Belagavi (Sambra) Airport requires an additional 56 acres of land, prompting the district administration to initiate the land acquisition process. The expansion will impact 10 homeowners, whose properties are located in the areas surrounding the airport.
Belagavi Airport currently occupies 755 acres, but the Airport Authority has determined that 56 more acres are necessary to avoid road connectivity issues. Of this, 49 acres are essential, but the extra land ensures smoother operations. Notices will soon be issued to the affected landowners.
Recently, airport director S. Thiagarajan confirmed that the district administration has been informed, and a survey will be conducted to determine the land’s boundaries before notices are sent. Efforts to expedite the process are underway, following instructions from MP Jagdish Shedder, who held two meetings to push for progress.
In December 2022, former MP Smt. Mangala Angadi had also discussed land acquisition during her visit to Belagavi Airport. While there had been delays, the process has now gained fresh momentum. Farmers in the surrounding areas have previously expressed dissatisfaction with past land acquisitions by the airport authority, which had taken hundreds of acres.
