The government has officially announced that the winter session of the State Legislature will take place at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi from December 9 to December 20. Assembly Speaker UT Khadar and Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti recently reviewed preparations at the venue to ensure the smooth conduct of the session.
On Tuesday, Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan confirmed that comprehensive arrangements are underway. Approximately 6,000 police personnel will be deployed to maintain security and effectively facilitate the session. Multiple committees have been formed to oversee transportation, accommodation, catering, and maintenance of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.
Around 85 hotels, resorts, lodges, and guest houses in and around Belagavi, with about 2,500 rooms, have been reserved for the event. No other bookings will be allowed during this period, and existing reservations from December 9 to December 20 have been canceled. This recurring practice during the session has often led to accommodation challenges for tourists and visitors.
In addition to the legislature session, the district administration is gearing up for centenary celebrations of the 1924 Congress Plenary, presided over by Mahatma Gandhi in Belagavi. Events to mark the occasion will be held on December 26 and 27, with a year-long series of commemorative programs culminating on October 2, 2025.
The Veerasoudha memorial in Tilakwadi, where the historic plenary was held, will be developed and beautified as part of these celebrations. The memorial of freedom fighter Gangadhar Rao Deshpande at Kanabargi, who played a pivotal role in organizing the 1924 session, will also be renovated..
