A selfless act by a 16-year-old boy from Belagavi has become the centrepiece of a remarkable medical success story at SPARSH Hospital, Bengaluru. The boy’s family made the brave decision to donate his liver, which enabled a life-saving transplant for a 63-year-old patient, who had been awaiting a donor for over a year.
The liver was retrieved at KLE Hospital, Belagavi, and its journey to SPARSH Hospital was a testament to seamless coordination. The organ left KLE Hospital at 6:30 AM, reached Hubballi Airport by 7:40 AM, and arrived in Bengaluru by 9:35 AM, thanks to a meticulously planned green corridor and the swift service of Indigo Airlines.
The transplant surgery was performed by SPARSH Hospital’s highly skilled team at their Yeshwanthpur facility, marking another milestone in their leading organ transplant program.

Dr. Sharan Shivaraj Patil, Chairman and Chief Orthopedic Surgeon at SPARSH Hospitals, lauded the teamwork and courage involved in the operation, stating, “This achievement underscores the importance of collective efforts. The donor’s family’s incredible generosity, coupled with the flawless collaboration between SOTTO, the police, and the airlines, made this possible. At SPARSH, we are proud to bring new hope to patients through such transformative procedures.”
The story of this Belagavi boy and his family’s altruism has touched hearts across Karnataka, highlighting the critical need for organ donation awareness. Their decision gave a second chance at life to a patient and serves as a shining example of humanity and compassion.
