The district administration has demanded that the bungalow area be included in the transfer of the Cantonment Board to the Municipal Corporation, alongside urban settlements. This demand was strongly put forth during an online meeting held on Tuesday.
The meeting, attended by representatives from the Cantonment Board, the district administration, and Army officials from Delhi and Pune, marked the first discussion on the transfer after a gap of three to four months.
While the Cantonment Board has agreed to transfer civilian settlements, they cited technical difficulties in including the bungalow area in the transfer. Despite this, the district administration and local representatives reiterated their request, emphasizing the importance of integrating the entire area for seamless governance.
During the meeting, the survey data and the total land earmarked for transfer were reviewed. District Collector Mohammad Roshan presented the state government’s position, while Cantonment officials outlined the procedural aspects of the transfer. Key participants included Cantonment Chairman Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee, CEO Rajeev Kumar, and senior Ministry of Defense officials.
The discussions are expected to continue as stakeholders work towards resolving technical challenges and finalizing the transfer process.
