The Army has restricted public movement by installing gates on roads passing through Sainik Nagar Colony, Basava Colony, and Papamala Colony in Chowgulewadi. This closure has caused significant inconvenience to residents who rely on these roads for access to schools, hospitals, and markets.
In response to public outcry, Brigadier Jayadeep Mukherjee, Station Commandant of the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, visited the affected areas today to assess the situation along with MP Jagdish Shettar and former MLA Anil Benake. Local residents expressed their grievances, highlighting the difficulties they now face due to the road closures.
These colonies were established near Defence Department land, and for years, residents had been using these roads without restrictions. However, with the installation of gates, they are now forced to take longer, inconvenient routes to reach essential services.
Acknowledging the concerns raised by the residents, Brigadier Mukherjee assured that the matter would be reviewed. He stated that necessary government documents would be examined in the coming days, and appropriate action would be taken to address public hardships.
Former MLA of Belagavi North, Shri Anil Benake, Cantonment CEO Shri Rajiv Kumar, and officials from the Defence Department were also present during the visit.
