A rabid dog attacked two security guards on duty at a residential complex in Indraprastha Nagar Belagavi on Tuesday (25th) morning. The dog entered the premises and bit both guards on their legs, causing severe injuries and bleeding. They were immediately rushed to BIMS, where they received urgent medical treatment.
Upon learning about the incident, Corporator Nitin Jadhav contacted the municipal corporation, urging swift action.
The increasing population of stray dogs, fueled by easy access to street food, has become a growing concern in the city. Packs of dogs have been attacking senior citizens, women, and children, prompting residents to demand strict action from the municipal authorities.
Inspector Raju Sankannavar from the Animal Husbandry Department was informed and directed immediate action to capture the rabid dog. A team from the municipal corporation, along with the contractor responsible for stray dog sterilization, conducted a search operation for about an hour and successfully captured the rabid dog in Indraprastha Nagar. The dog has been placed under observation at a sterilization center in Srinagar.
Recurring Attacks Raise Alarm
This incident marks the second case of a stray dog attack within a week, following an attack on a five-year-old girl in Ganeshpur. Additionally, in the last 24 hours, three separate incidents of stray dog attacks have been reported in Azamnagar and Nehrunagar, further intensifying fear among residents.
In one alarming case, a 75-year-old man was attacked by a pack of stray dogs while walking home around 11:50 p.m. Fortunately, nearby citizens intervened and saved him.
With stray dog attacks on the rise, residents are urging the municipal corporation to take immediate and effective measures to address this escalating issue before more people fall victim.
