Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar has expressed his delight over the approval of ₹100 crore for the development of the Shabari Kolla holy site in Ramdurg taluk, Belagavi district. The funding will be provided under Part-III of the “Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2024-25,” which focuses on the development of iconic tourist centers on a global scale.
Shri Shettar shared that this significant development follows his personal appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2025. Responding positively, the Prime Minister’s Office has directed the State Tourism Department to initiate necessary measures for the site’s development without delay.
Shabarikolla holds deep spiritual significance as it is believed to be the place where Shabari waited for Lord Rama’s arrival, eventually meeting him and offering him fruit. The site’s historical and religious relevance has gained renewed attention following the construction of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, resulting in a surge of interest among devotees and pilgrims. Thousands have called for the transformation of Shabarikolla into a well-developed pilgrimage and tourism destination.
In line with this vision, the Under-Secretary and Director of the Tourism Department have been instructed to take further action, including mobilizing resources under centrally sponsored schemes such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and SASC.
Shri Jagadish Shettar, in an official press release, affirmed that the state government is optimistic and committed to taking all necessary steps to elevate Shabarikolla into a significant spiritual and tourist destination in the days ahead.
