
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar visited the Belagavi district multiple times, leaving a profound mark on its history. April 11–12, 1925: He visited Nippani and addressed a public meeting of the Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha on April 12.

1932: A second visit to Nippani.
1937: He visited Chikkodi.

December 26, 1939: Dr. Ambedkar visited Belgaum (now Belagavi) to address the local Bar Association. He stayed as a guest of the Vastvadkar family in Kangral Galli. Today, many urge that this residence be preserved as a museum.
During this 1939 visit, the then-municipality honored him with a bronze memento, presented by First Citizen Mr. Bhimrao Potdar. The total expense for the civic function was ₹51.
