A special meeting has been organized in the Cantonment Board hall on Saturday, the 6th of July at 11 am to discuss the transfer of the Cantonment Board to the Belagavi Municipal Corporation. The primary agenda will focus on determining which parts of the Cantonment Board will be transferred. This urgent meeting is crucial as the relevant report needs to be submitted to the Ministry of Defence.

During the meeting, the Brigadier Cantonment Board will discuss the transfer of B2 lands situated outside the Fort zone area to the City Corporation, Belagavi, along with matters regarding FSI restrictions. The Chairman of the Committee has directed the CEO, Belagavi, to prepare a revised presentation, which has already been completed by this office. The Joint Secretary (L&W) directed the Cantonment Board to forward a draft proposal concerning the subject matter to the State Government Authorities, as per the revised presentation clearly demarcating the area proposed for excision.

The transfer proceedings of the Cantonment Board have been ongoing for the last two years. However, the process slowed down in recent months due to the Cantonment Board’s delay in providing necessary information to the Municipal Corporation. A committee was formed in February, and a meeting was held on February 22, attended by both state and central officials.

The process of transferring some cantonment boards in the country has accelerated, including the Belagavi Cantonment Board. The aim is to complete the transfer process by the end of December. The Belagavi Cantonment Board, under the Ministry of Defence, will also discuss the division of military and civil areas to determine which parts will be transferred.
