Belagavi District police successfully rescued a kidnapped real estate businessman and arrested four suspects involved in the crime. The accused were produced in court and have been remanded to judicial custody.
According to Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled, the victim, Basavaraj Ambi, was being held on the outskirts of Nipani. Swift action by teams from the Ghataprabha and Nipani police led to the arrest of the kidnappers, identified as Eshwar Ramaganatti, Sachin Kamble, Ramesh Kamble, and Raghavendra Marapura. Authorities suspect the involvement of more individuals and are continuing their investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused believed Basavaraj was engaged in illegal activities. “They assumed he would avoid going to the police, making him an easy target for ransom,” said SP Guled. The kidnappers initially demanded ₹5 crore but later instructed Basavaraj’s son to bring ₹10 lakh to a designated location. However, upon noticing that he was accompanied by others, they fled. Following this, another threat call was made to the victim’s family.
The SP confirmed that there was no prior connection between the victim and the kidnappers. “Thanks to prompt action, all four accused were apprehended within 24 hours of the complaint being filed by Basavaraj’s wife,” he added.
Police are now working to identify any additional suspects involved in the case.
