In a tragic incident on Wednesday afternoon, two labourers lost their lives after a sudden mudslide buried them during underground sewage pipeline work along the service road near Gandhinagar on National Highway, under the Amrut project of the Belagavi City Corporation.
The deceased have been identified as Shivling Maruti Sarave (20) and Basavaraj Sarave (38), both residents of Patagundi village in Mudalagi taluk. The work was being carried out by a subcontractor associated with the Amrut sewerage project.
According to eyewitnesses, a portion of the trench collapsed while the two were working inside, trapping them under heavy debris. Rescue efforts were initiated immediately, but sadly, both workers were found deceased at the site.
