In a significant move, the Finance Standing Committee of the Belagavi Municipal Corporation passed a resolution on Wednesday to facilitate the transfer of residential colonies, markets, bungalows, grounds, and open spaces within the Cantonment area to the Corporation.

The meeting, chaired by Netravati Bhagwat, was attended by Mayor Mangesh Pawar, Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi, and other key members. This decision marks a shift from the earlier stance of the general body, which had agreed only to take over the residential colonies, leaving the status of other areas uncertain.

The confusion surrounding the inclusion of markets, bungalows, and public spaces was clarified during the meeting by DC Mohammad Roshan, who provided details of the state’s broader decision to transfer all components of the civilian-use areas.

Revenue Deputy Commissioner Reshma Talikoti presented the current status of the proposal and shared comprehensive information, leading to the committee’s consensus.

The Belagavi Cantonment Board currently manages a total of 1,763 acres.

With this resolution, the path is now clear for the complete transfer process to proceed, aligning with the larger plan to integrate parts of the Cantonment into the Belagavi Municipal Corporation limits.
